Puget Sound Steam Special - May 2007

Union Pacific #844 and Southern Pacific #4449 steam locomotives
double-head a roundtrip excursion from Tacoma to Everett, Washington.

This steam special was operated by the Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway on behalf of the Barriger Library, Washington State Historical Society, and the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation.

Equipment was moved to the Puget Sound area the previous weekend, seen here south of Napavine.

A private excursion was made on Friday. The morning train to Everett was led by SP 4449. Power was swapped at Everett and UP 844 led the southbound train.

Here the Special streaks through Auburn, making up time to stay ahead of the Sounders.
